What Fighters Don't Understand About Justin Gaethje

Justin Gaethje just had the biggest win of his career and it's time to dive into what makes him such an exceptional fighter. Having fought him before, I wanted to share some insights into why he's not only the man of the hour but consistently pulls off amazing performances that leave audiences and opposition alike in awe. Gaethje just defended the United States, and won a title, further solidifying his status as an American legend. Let's explore what many fighters don't realize about him until they step into the octagon against this athletic powerhouse.

Inside The Ring

In my previous video, I shared my experiences of fighting Gaethje and how things played out from my perspective. However, I felt compelled to make another video because there's always more to say about a fighter as dynamic as Gaethje. You see, one thing that I, alongside many other fighters, didn't understand until facing him in the ring, is just how athletic Justin Gaethje truly is.

He's not just a great wrestler, boxer, or kicker—he's an all-around athlete. To give you some context, this just isn't about having a high knockout ratio (although he does), it's about the sheer explosiveness and athleticism he embodies in the ring.

Gaethje's Athleticism

The level of athleticism Gaethje displays is truly extraordinary. Many people, including other fighters, don't realize the extent of this until they face him. This was particularly evident in his recent fight, where he showcased his abilities against Topuria.

Athleticism That Shocks

It's crazy, I know, but before the fight, no one would've guessed that Gaethje would arguably surpass or at least match Topuria's athleticism punch for punch. Gaethje was more than able to hold his own, out-jabbing and landing more combos throughout the bout. His ability to mix takedowns so fluidly is not something one expects unless they're familiar with how truly athletic he is.

In a previous comparison, I likened Gaethje to Johnny Hendrix. The only athlete I've ever sparred with or trained against who possessed even a similar level of athleticism. And I'm not just talking speed or strength, but the whole package—including cardio.

Cardio and Knockout Power

There are plenty of athletes out there with knockout power and explosive abilities. But to maintain that energy in the fifth round as you do in the first? That's where Gaethje surpasses expectations. He's not just a powerhouse; he's a machine capable of maintaining that intensity consistently, which is what sets him apart from most fighters.

Gaethje Versus Topuria

In the recent showdown with Topuria, it became even more evident that Gaethje's athletic skills are a notch above. Topuria is undeniably more technical, but when comparing athleticism alone, Gaethje stands out.

Taking Hits and Giving Them

An interesting observation is that Gaethje seems to take more hits than his level of athleticism would predict. Coming from an amateur boxing background, this threw me off initially. Traditionally, super athletic guys tend to be more defensive, relying on their agility and speed not to get hit. Gaethje, however, embraces forward movement, engaging headfirst, which contributed to me underestimating his capability.

"He's not just a great wrestler, boxer, or kicker—he's an all-around athlete."

In the ring, Gaethje is as fast and hits as hard as anyone, Topuria included. This is something many fighters, myself included, have to learn the hard way. Gaethje has the unique ability to match, if not exceed, his opponent's athleticism while still maintaining his fighting style.

Conclusion

Justin Gaethje is a freak of nature when it comes to athleticism in the octagon. From his explosive speed to his unmatched cardio, there's a lot that fighters don't understand about him until they're on the receiving end of a punch or a takedown.

He did America proud with his recent victory, defending a title and securing his status as a world champion. Sharing the ring with him is something that fills me with pride, given his dedication and success within the sport.
