What's up, guys? I'm excited to share my amazing experience at UFC Mexico City. I recently traveled there to corner my student, Victor Altamirano. It was an unforgettable trip filled with exciting fights, incredible people, and rich culture.

An Unforgettable Experience

UFC Mexico City was an event like no other. The fight night was held in a sold-out arena with 20,000 fans, all of whom bought their tickets in just two hours! We were the second fight of the night, and when we walked out of the tunnel, the place was already packed.

Victor's entrance into the ring was electrifying. The crowd chanted "Mexico! Mexico!" and went wild. At that moment, I felt confident that Victor would take home the win. He put up a fantastic fight, and to me, it was obvious that he won the first two rounds clearly.

But unfortunately, the judges thought otherwise, and we lost by split decision. It was a bitter pill to swallow, especially in front of his home crowd.

The Fight Breakdown

Victor's performance was stellar. He landed 28 kicks and achieved nine takedowns. The strikes were even, but Victor's ground control and cage control were evident. Despite this, the decision didn't go our way.

Victor's maneuvers, including two successful sidekicks that dropped his opponent and over nine takedowns, showcased his skill and determination. The crowd's energy only fueled his performance further.

I've never been so confident going into the ring, the cage, after the third round, before they announced the decision. - The Coach

After the Fight

Post-fight, the atmosphere was a mix of disappointment and camaraderie. Victor, who now lives and trains in Fort Worth, Texas, had a powerful tie to Mexico City. His entire family and many fans were there to support him. It was his moment to shine.

Despite the loss, we didn't let the decision dampen our spirits for long. We retreated to the hotel, where Victor's family cooked for us, and we continued to watch the remaining fights on TV. The camaraderie and support from Victor's family were incredible.

The Elevation Challenge

One thing that stood out during our stay in Mexico City was the elevation. At 7,500ft, it took a toll on many fighters. The Mexican fighters handled it well since they are accustomed to it. However, the elevation was no joke for those coming from sea level.

I noticed the impact of the elevation when we arrived. I felt car sick from the airport to the hotel due to altitude changes, and even during the minimal physical activity, I felt its effects.

If you're a fighter planning to compete in high-altitude locations like Mexico City, I highly recommend arriving a few weeks early to acclimate.

The Brawl and the New Norm

The night of UFC Mexico City was packed with excitement, including a brawl in the crowd that went viral. The event was a testament to the passion and energy of Mexican fans.

Another interesting change is how fighters are now required to leave the arena immediately after their fights. They head back to the hotel after being checked by a doctor. While it changes the dynamic, it ensures fighters' safety and allows them to focus on recovery.

Mexican Pride and Dominance

The Mexican fighters showed exemplary performances at both the UFC and Karate Combat events. They demonstrated skill, cardio, and adaptability. It was great to see them representing their country with such pride and excellence.

Friday night before the UFC event, I attended a Karate Combat event. The Mexican fighters dominated there as well. The impact of elevation was evident, as the Mexican fighters maintained better endurance.

Memorable Fights

There were several standout fights, including Yahir's bout against Ortega. Though Yahir looked good on his feet early on, Ortega's grappling skills ultimately secured him the win.

In the main event, Brandon Moreno gave a strong performance, although he did not secure the win in the high-altitude, five-round battle. Both fighters showcased excellent skill and endurance.

A Cultural Experience

Aside from the fights, Mexico City left a lasting impression on me. The food, culture, and people were all amazing. The local cuisine was delicious, although it did come with some digestive challenges due to my love for hot sauce!

Conclusion

My trip to UFC Mexico City was filled with highs and lows. From Victor's impressive performance and the electrifying crowd to the challenges of high-altitude fighting and the rich Mexican culture, it was an experience I will never forget.
