HOW TO CONTROL YOUR TEMPER WHEN SPARRING!! ๐ŸฅŠ๐Ÿฅ‹

We've all been there - you're in the heat of a sparring session, adrenaline pumping, and suddenly, something sets you off. You lose your cool, and your temper starts to flare. It's a common scenario in combat sports like boxing, kickboxing, and grappling. But what's the solution? How can you learn to control your temper when the intensity rises?

The answer, as simple as it sounds, is to spar with someone better than you.

The Golden Rule: Spar with the Best

The simple answer is, go with someone better than you go with. The tougher, the more experienced guy in the gym.

It's a harsh reality, but people who lose their temper often don't last long in gyms. Why? Because they tend to lose their cool with the wrong people - those they think they can get away with it against. But when they encounter a seasoned fighter, someone with experience and skill, their temper tantrum won't fly.

What usually happens is that the hot-headed fighter ends up getting their ass whooped. At that point, they either learn to control their temper or quit, using their inability to handle the beatdown as an excuse for why they "couldn't train" or "couldn't keep fighting."

The Pride Factor

Reality check: If you try to throw a temper tantrum against an experienced fighter, you'll get shut down real quick. Your pride might not be able to handle taking that ass-whipping in the gym, but that's exactly what you need to learn control.

There's a stark difference between having a temper and being a bully. A temper can sometimes push you to fight harder, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But a bully mentality? That's someone who goes hard on people they know they can bully and beat up. They only lose their temper with those they think they can overpower.

But when you put a bully up against the best fighters in the gym, they quickly learn to control that temper. Why? Because they know if they don't, they're going to get their ass kicked โ€“ plain and simple.

Facing the Fire

If you're new to martial arts and struggling with your temper, the solution is straightforward: go with the people who are going to kick your ass.

So a simple solution, not easy. If you have a temper, you're gonna have to take your ass whippings like a man and go with better people.

It's not going to be pretty, and it certainly won't be easy. But by continuously sparring with those better than you, you'll become accustomed to being hit, to having punches and kicks thrown at you. You'll learn to deal with that pressure without losing your cool. And eventually, you'll be able to turn that temper on and off at will, rather than letting it control you.

The Path to Control

The key is consistency. Don't just do one round a week with the top dogs; go three rounds in a row. Push yourself to the limit, and let them break you down. It's a humbling experience, but it's the only way to truly master your temper.

It's not going to happen overnight, but you get your butt kicked enough in the gym, you're going to learn to control your temper.

And that's the beauty of the controlled environment of a gym. You've got shin guards, bigger gloves, and safety measures in place. So go hard โ€“ as hard as you want. But be prepared to face the consequences of losing control against someone who knows how to apply pressure and bring you back down to earth.

Mastering your temper in sparring isn't easy, but it's a crucial skill for any combat athlete. By facing the fire and willingly stepping into the line of those better than you, you'll forge the mental toughness and emotional control that separates the great fighters from the rest. So lace up your gloves, hit the mats, and get ready to learn some hard lessons โ€“ they might just be the key to unlocking your true potential.
